Yep that's right. I said Half Marathon. I am pretty sure I was a little sick the day I decided to sign up for one. But once I realized what I did I wasn't going to give up. It now became a goal to run the whole thing. I started training with Marisa, but after awhile her knees started to really bug her and wasn't able to run. So I had to start training on my own. I was very self disciplined for a while. I would wake up every morning and run even if I was super exhausted. I had a couple of set backs I went on some trips and it was so hard to get the motivation back to run. And then I started getting really bad blisters. **WARNING** this next pictures is kind of gross
It got about an inch bigger before it finally popped...Gross I know...Sorry.
Well I still trained, probably not the best I could, but I wasn't going to give up. The night before the race I was really nervous because my feet have been swelling really bad and then all the blisters I have been getting and I really wanted to finish the race. And with how bad my feet would get I didn't know if that would happen. So I asked my sweet husband to give me a priesthood blessing. I LOVE having a husband that is worthy to give me blessing whenever I need them. It was such a huge comfort to have that blessing. The rest of the night was pretty restless. I checked my phone every hour because I really didn't want to miss the bus. The day off the race came. Alarm went off at 3:45 and I started getting ready. I bought padded mole skin and hoped that the palms of my feet would hold up. I went infront of the hotel to wait for my bus. And it was an hour late. There were about twenty of us just waiting and shivering in the cold dark morning. I finally met up with my dad and got on another bus that would take us up to the canyon. Halfway through the drive our bus broke down and we had to wait for another one. Which was kind of lucky since it was SO freezing up in the mountains so the longer we could be in the bus the better. We finally made it. We saw my cousin and I found Marisa ans started the run with her.
Here are some pictures before we started the race
Well the race started and I felt grate. I felt good and my dad and I kept a steady pase until I hit 9 miles. Then I started dragging a bit. My feet were swelling and it was getting painful. I kept reminding myself that I got a blessing and that Heavenly Father would help me. I kept going but as we got closer and closer to the finish line my feet were unbearably swollen but my dad was AMAZING and kept pushing me to go. I kept telling myself that I would be so disappointed if I walked. So I kept plugging away.
I am so grateful that my dad was there to motivate me and keep me going. And I am so glad that he stayed back with me :) We finished the race in 2 hours and 40 Minutes.
I am so happy that I was able to finish without walking. I am happy that my feet held up as well as they did. No blisters just swelling. I now need to buy some compression socks to help my feet now swell as much and then I will be able to cut that time down by at least 30 minutes :) I guess that means I'll be running another one....Oh boy!!
